Inspiring Young Minds with STEAM in Walsenburg

From April through November, the Wheelhouse Library Lab has been abuzz with creativity, curiosity, and hands-on learning! We are thrilled to share the success of our STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) pilot programs, which reached an impressive 163 students ranging from Kindergarten to 10th grade.

A Snapshot of Our Impact:

  • Total Programs Conducted: 9

  • Students Reached: 163 (K–10th grade)

  • Types of Programs Offered:

    • 3 Summer Reading STEAM Programs

    • 2 Junior/High School STEAM Sessions

    • 4 Upper Elementary STEMFIE Challenges

Teachers have reported that their students are still talking about these programs weeks and even months after attending. The buzz in the classroom and the lingering excitement demonstrate how impactful hands-on, interactive STEAM activities can be. Our young innovators had the opportunity to experiment, problem-solve, and think creatively—skills that will serve them well throughout their education and future careers.

Looking Ahead:

Building on the insights we’ve gained, we’re excited to expand our STEAM offerings starting in January. We plan to introduce more sessions for elementary and junior high students, ensuring that the spark of curiosity we’ve ignited continues to grow. Our goal is to provide enriching, memorable experiences that inspire our community's next generation of thinkers, tinkerers, and trailblazers.
